Flints from the Thanet Chalk

Stones either originating from the chalk cliffs around Thanet or carried here by the sea. This covers the area of cliffs from Pegwell Bay to Margate, a long stretch of fairly similar material, including very nice echinoderm and sponge fossils, as well as some fantastically shaped nodules weathered straight out of the chalk, sometimes with no wear from the sea at all. Here, it is often about the shape rather than the colour, and they really do seem to merit the description "The Bones of the Land".
